Future Research

Directions I'm excited to pursue in the coming years.

Respiratory Virus Transmission Dynamics

Mapping how respiratory viruses spread through populations

Integrating large-scale pathogen genomic data with epidemiological and demographic information to reconstruct transmission networks, quantify drivers of spread, and characterize how respiratory viruses move across communities and geographic scales.

Vaccine Preventable Diseases

Surveillance and characterization of outbreaks

Conducting genomic surveillance of vaccine preventable disease outbreaks to identify emerging threats to vaccines and therapeutics, characterize the populations through which these viruses spread, and monitor their potential for broader dissemination.

Metagenomic Surveillance in Natural Hosts

Pathogen discovery at the animal-human interface

Applying metagenomic sequencing to wildlife and domestic animal populations to characterize viral diversity, detect novel pathogens with spillover potential, and build early warning systems for emerging infectious disease threats.
